January 2018 is coming to an end and as I look toward the rest of 2018 with anticipation, I reflect on my 2017. It was definitely a year of trials and new beginnings, but it was also a year with an abundance of blessings and that is what I choose to focus on. 2017, I am grateful for you. If I were to list all of my blessings and things that I’m grateful for in 2017, we would be here all day. So, I only picked my top 10 things that I am grateful for in 2017. Enjoy!
1 Marrying my now hubby
We got to tie the knot in March of 2017! There was so much stress leading up to that day because of the planning and all the logistics of it, but I wouldn’t change it for the world because it meant I got to marry my ruggedly handsome husband (I hope he’s reading this!) that I love oh so much! The moment we said ‘I do’ marked the start of our life together as a little blended family. They bring so much joy into my life and I will forever be grateful for that. Not only did I gain a wonderful husband and son, but I also gained my amazing parents-in-law and 3 amazing brothers. So grateful!
2 Moving out of my parent’s house
As a 26 year old with a kid, I was itching to have my own space. I loved living with my parents and my sisters, but there comes a moment where you just need to be independent from them. That moment came when I got married obviously. We moved out to a cozy little condo and the whole aspect of running a household definitely had a learning curve, but I love being on our own and having our own space. Like my husband has mentioned several times before, he’s the head of this household, but I’m the boss! And who doesn’t love being the boss, right?
3 Jay’s surgery went well
Jay had a heart catheterization surgery a month before the wedding in February 2017, which definitely didn’t help my sanity. I am so thankful that everything came out wonderful. They came back with good news, he didn’t need to have open-heart surgery that year and was still good for another year. An open-heart surgery is obviously more risky so we were glad to push that back another year or so.
4 Learning to manage my finances
Moving out and being the boss of our household meant that my finances needed to be in tip-top shape. Of course, they weren’t. I had to learn and learn quick if we were going to have enough for our family’s necessities. I can honestly say that has been the hardest part of 2017, but I’m thankful for it because I feel like I grew tremendously in the ‘responsible adult’ aspect of life and am on top of my finances, credit score, future financial planning, etc. I’m still learning a lot, but I feel more confident now than I did a year ago.
5 Starting my home organizing business
I mentioned it in another post that I started my own home organizing business in April 2017, it’s called NS Organizing. I love it and my knowledge and love for organizing keeps growing. I’m very thankful to be pursuing what I love.
6 Started a new Speech Therapy job
Speaking of things that I love, I’m also a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). I started a new job at the end of May 2017 and it has been great. The clinic that I work at is great, the therapists, the staff, the bosses, they’re all great – and for that I am so grateful for.
7 Went on my first cruise
I got to experience going on my first cruise for our honeymoon. We took a 7-day cruise down to 3 cities in Mexico: Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. The cities were wonderful, but I really just loved the whole cruising experience – not having to worry about anything, loved it! We’re planning to do another cruise for our 3-year anniversary.
8 Jay got his own room
This was a big one. My then-8 year old had been sleeping with his mommy his whole life because quite frankly, we didn’t have the space or ability to get him his own space. Now that we have our own place, he gets his own room which was way overdue. He obviously loves it and that makes my heart so happy!
9 Sister moved back to California
One of my sisters had been going to college in Illinois for the past 4 years. She graduated with her BA in May of 2017 and she moved back to California. I am so thankful for this because she’s my bestie and I love having her 30 minutes away (drive time) rather than a 4 hour flight away.
10 My Grandma Visiting
My grandma came to visit us from Mexico for a couple of months and also to attend my wedding in the beginning of the year. I was so happy she was there on my big day because I just love her so much. She was a huge part of my childhood and she helped raise me when my dad died so it was really important for me to have her there that day. She got to be the most beautiful flower girl – I’m tearing up just typing this. Thankful for my “Abuelita”!
These are my top 10 things I am grateful for in 2017! What are some of yours?? I would love to know, comment below.
