As you can probably already guess from the post title, I FOUND MY WEDDING DRESS!!! I am beyond excited! And I found it at the first wedding dress shop I visited. I was so relieved it was that easy! I had been busy pinning away gorgeous dresses on Pinterest, but I didn’t really have my mind set on the type of dress that I wanted. Most of my pins were ballgown dresses or mermaid dresses, but I wasn’t set on anything just yet. Since I am extremely short, 5 feet flat (crying face), I knew that some dresses that I saw in pictures would most likely look different on me because of my height. So I was very open to suggestions and just went into that shop with an open mind.
One detail that I did know for sure and also from looking at most of my pins, I really loved the sweetheart neckline. The shop owner reassured me that if I found a dress that I liked, but it wasn’t sweetheart neckline, that it could easily be made into one. So that put a smile on my face real quick!
I extended the wedding dress shopping invitation to my bridesmaids, maids of honor and my mom. My three Maids of Honor, 3 Bridesmaids (2 of them were my sisters), and my mom made it. The shop was a bit smaller than I was expecting, but we made it work. Since I was very open to suggestions, I had my girls pick out a dress that they liked or would like to see me try on. The shop owner, Judy, also picked out dresses with different materials and different styles so I could narrow down what my preferences were. After trying on a couple dresses, everyone including myself, really loved how the mermaid dresses looked on me, especially the lacy ones. Near the end, I picked my top 3, which they all ended up being lace mermaid dresses. I tried those three on again and then from there narrowed it to my top 2.
The first one was way below our budget (yay!) and it was super sexy (slit for my leg to show), but the thing that I kept going back and forth on was the side of the dress. It had a sheer opening on the side of the dress and it looked super sexy, but I was a bit self conscious about my little pudgy bulging out a bit. Judy mentioned that with the alterations, that would’t be a problem. But even with the alterations, I would probably feel self-conscious about that area on my special day and I didn’t want that! One thing I did know for sure was that I don’t want to be worrying on whether I should have a cookie or not from here until the wedding day, just so I could show some extra skin. No thank you!
Now the second dress was just perfect and I knew it was the one the instant I saw myself in front of the mirror! When my girls saw it, their reactions said it all. I fell in love, but part of me was thinking Did I really just find my dress so quickly? It can’t be! so that’s why I tried on a couple dresses after it. But none really impacted me like this one did, which is why it immediately made it into my top 3. It was a bit over our budget, but I had to have it, plus Judy gave us a 20% off for getting it in-store versus ordering it online, so that worked out perfectly.
Now, my dress is simple and classy, yet it’s the right amount of sexy. And I say sexy because for some reason I think lace is sexy and especially since the dress is a mermaid style fit, that makes it sexy too! I also think it’s sexy because I feel good about my body in it and I think that’s a beautiful thing. And guess what? My midriff section is covered (so that’s a plus) and the material was not bulky at all, it was actually super light and comfortable. Comfort is a huge deal for me because I want to be able to dance the night away in that dress! And yes, I love to dance (I blame it on my Mexican blood!). I want to be comfortable and have my dress feel light when I’m break-dancing (just kidding, I don’t break-dance). Even though the dress was body hugging, it hugged my body just right to where it hid my little love handles and just really accentuated my assets (that’s how Judy put it) hahaha! I’m not going to describe the dress into too much detail or post a picture of the actual dress because I obviously don’t want Matt to see it! But stay tuned, I will definitely post some pictures after March 11th!!
