This Sunday is our engagement shoot. We’ve been engaged for 9 months already and we definitely lagged on scheduling our engagement shoot. Good news is that it’s complimentary! It was included when we signed with our wedding photographer, so that’s a huge plus! Anyways, this Sunday is the big day where we get to take all those gazing into your eyes kinda cheesy (I like cheesy) pictures. I think it’s important to try and look your best. I’ll tell you how I have been preparing for that this week.
#1. Teeth Whitening
When you take your pictures, you’re going to be smiling a lot. And guess what? Your teeth are going to show, duh! I obviously want pearly whites to show instead of the usual yellow-ish I’ve been rocking lately. Am I right? So I’ve been whitening my teeth at home with the Crest Whitening Strips. I got mine from Amazon and it came 28 to a pack. Each packet has a strip for your top teeth and a strip for your bottom teeth. This specific one that I got, you’re only supposed to leave on for 30 minutes so I’ve been putting it on while I wash my face and do my nightly routine or while I’m watching my novela (For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a Spanish Soap Opera). I’ve only used it for 3 days so far and the results aren’t mind blowing, but hopefully in the next few days I’ll be able to see a noticeable difference. I’ll keep you guys updated!
#2. Make-Up Trials
I highly recommend this tip! Why? First, because you need to decide on what kind of make-up look you are going for. Secondly, because you’ll be able to make sure that your make-up is going to look good for your pictures. Now, whether you are hiring a professional make-up artist for your engagement shoot is up to you and your wallet. I, personally, am not hiring a makeup artist for the engagement pictures, so I’ve been doing make-up trials myself. Now I knew I wanted a subtle brown smoky eye, but I only had shimmery eyeshadows so the final look looked good, but it was too shimmery for my taste. So I bought an eyeshadow palette by Wet n’ Wild with some matte eyeshadows which is what I was looking for. I tested it out and the look was exactly what I had envisioned. So that is why I highly recommend to do a make-up trial before hand so there are no surprises the day of your engagement shoot.
#3. Hair Trials
This tip goes hand-in-hand with the latter. It’s important to also do some hair trials to see how you want to style your hair for your pictures. That way you get the complete look of how you’ll look in your pictures and you’ll be able to do any adjustments if necessary to your locks.
#4. Clean your Engagement Ring
You will probably be doing some close-ups of your ring in some of the pictures and your ring is going to come out in all the pictures on your hand so you obviously want it looking its best. Matt got my ring at Robbins Brothers, which has unlimited complimentary ring cleaning so I took it in this Monday and it’s so shiny and clean now. There are some home solutions that you can use to clean your ring at home as well. I’ve seen so many on Pinterest.
#5. Mani/Pedi Time
Along with your shiny ring, your nails are going to be showing in most of the pictures and you want those babies to look beautiful and polished! So I recommend to get them done at the nail salon or if you’re really good at it, do them yourself! Now it’s up to you if your feet are going to be showing. Our engagement shoot is on the beach so we’ll definitely be taking some pictures without our shoes. If this is the case for you too or you have a different scenery, but you’ll be doing some pictures without your shoes, I recommend you show your toes some love too! I haven’t decided if I’m doing my own mani/pedi (I think I’m pretty good at it) or if I’m going to the nail salon to get them done. Either way, polish those babies up!
#6. Be good to your face
I have a confession. I am horrible to my face. I frequently fall asleep with my make-up on and I rarely wash my face at night before I go to sleep. I usually just use the Simple Face Wipes in the morning to clean my face and I’m good to go. But then again, that is why I have the skin that I have today. I’m 26 and I still have occasional break-outs and I definitely don’t have nice, clear skin. I use a facial scrub in the shower, but that’s about it. So with this whole engagement shoot thing happening, I made it a goal of mine to be really good to my skin. I kind of made a little facial skin care regimen and I’ve actually been keeping up with it and let me tell you, I can definitely tell the difference and it’s only been less than a week. If my skin continues to improve and look healthy, I’ll stick to the same skin care regimen that I have right now for the wedding. I’ll let you know in depth what my actual skin care regimen is in another post, but whatever your skin care regimen is make sure to be doing it consistently so you’ll have nice, glowing skin in your pictures.
#7. Catch some Zzzs
Last but not least…you need to sleep! Sleep is so important so you don’t look tired in your pictures or with deep, dark under eye-circles from Netflixing it all night. Catch up on your shows the week after your engagement shoot, it’s not worth it! You need to be able to look refreshed and bright eyed that day! I definitely need to be taking my own advice on this one right now because it is nearing midnight as I’m finishing up this post. But I will definitely go to sleep early for the rest of the week so I’m rested and ready to rock n’ roll that day!
Hope this list of tips in how I’m preparing for my engagement shoot is helpful to you and I’ll talk to you soon!
Love and Blessings,
