I made my son a little station he can call his own for his school supplies such as markers, crayons, extra pencils, tape, notebooks, colored pencils, etc. If you have a small room like we do or have several kids sharing a room, this is quite nice because it doesn’t take up too much room. I have him do his homework on the kitchen table because we don’t have the space right now to put a desk in for him. I wanted to have an area designated just for his school supplies though because before we never knew where things would be. They’d be either at the bottom of his backpack, in my desk somewhere, in the living room drawers, etc.
Besides wanting to have an area for his school supplies, I of course wanted it to look nice and colorful, so I set out to work. I got little tins from the Target dollar section, I believe I got these around August. (If you go right now, you’ll probably find the Valentine’s theme tins, but they bring in new inventory every month.) I then put on letter stickers on three tins: for the markers, crayons, and colored pencils. The other three tins, I filled with extra pencils, dry-erase markers, and chalk.
I was in search of magazine holders/organizers for my son’s coloring books and notebooks, but I didn’t want any plain looking ones. I wanted ones with a boy-ish pattern or with boy-ish colors (green and blue), but I didn’t have any luck finding any. No worries, I made my own! I bought cardboard magazine holders and wrapping paper with the colors I wanted (I got these from Target as well). And of course, I wrapped the magazine holders with the wrapping paper.
I wanted something a little extra that was personalized for my son. So, I got wooden letters from Walmart and green, orange, and blue paint. I alternated the colors on the wooden letters when I painted them. I hung them up (spelling his name) on the wall above his supply station.
On top, he also has his box with glue, scissors and erasers inside. On top of the box, he has his chamomile tape dispenser.
We have recently added a wall calendar (Avenger themed) right next to his station so he can get in the habit of writing in special events and know how many days are left till a certain event he is looking forward to. Next to the wall calendar, I placed a commander hook for his backpack.
This is one of my favorite areas of our room because everything is so organized and now everything relating to school has his place. And of course my son loves it!!!
